Thomas Davenport’s Big Data at Work: Dispelling the Myths, Uncovering the Opportunities is the latest in a number of advice books about big data and analytics that have been published in recent years. A recognized global expert on business analytics and MIT research fellow, Davenport gives managers a practical and comprehensive guide to big data and explains how to unleash the business opportunities in their extensive repositories of data.
He starts by admitting that when he first heard the term “big data,” he thought it was yet another example of technology and marketing hype. But after thoroughly researching the topic, he changed his mind. He believes big data is here to stay and will increase in importance for many organizations.

He talks about why big data is important to your organization and how it will change your job, company and industry. He covers the changes big data will bring about in a plethora of sectors like banking, healthcare and marketing, although I would have appreciated even more detail here.
